Brief History: Noah was born as the eighth child to Nora and Norman Ogilvy on a pirate ship off the coast of Mozambique, or so Noah told his pre-Hogwarts classmates whenever he got the chance. Fond of alliteration and adventure (and not afraid to put the two together, clearly), Noah was constantly telling stories, or as his teacher so lovingly referred to them, lies. His real parents are Harriet and Theodore, both magical and Hogwarts alumni, and his siblings are not 7 but 2 - Francis, a former Gryffindor and lover of all things fuzzy, and Jean, a former Slytherin with a tendency to EAT money (or so it would seem, for where does it all go?). Both sets are grandparents are muggle, and Noah lovingly calls his grandfather on his mother's side 'the crazy Welshman'. Yes, the Ogilvys are a rather diverse family, with every house trait accounted for, especially around the holidays. While Noah was certainly influenced by the heroic deeds of Francis and the crafty manipulations of Jean, he was far too afraid of the feminine agression of the household to take after either of them. Instead, he clung to the side of his father Theodore, often asking his opinion on WHY the sky was blue and WHY the gnomes in the garden were too daft to find another hideaway, and WHY they had to eat his mother's lima bean casserole when it tasted of moldy sock. These were questions that would go unanswered, and so began Noah on his journey to discover the REAL answer to every problem, the practical solution to every dilemma, and then? Create a second answer, a second solution using only the depths of his imagination.

While every child goes through the stage of abundant curiosity, Noah never grew out of it, and so he was sometimes considered 'odd' by his peers. This hardly had an affect on the young Ogilvy at first, but as the taunts became more frequent and the friends went from many to few, Noah retreated into himself and became quite the introvert. It wasn't until his first year of Hogwarts that he was brought back out of his shell, but traces remain of the shy boy that once inhabited the body of Noah Ogilvy. This accounts for his large number of acquaintances, and rather small number of true friends and confidants.

With Noah's curiosity came a drive forward, an unceasing energy. Here the traits of his sisters collided into one chaotic mess of ambition and daring, channeled into the wonderful sport of Quidditch. Noah was given his first broom at the age of 9, and from that point forward it was up, up, up. After three summers of practise and playtime, Noah's true Ravenclaw characteristics invaded his flying style. The game has become for him similar to chess (another favourite of his), all about strategy and analysing the movements of his opponents.

During his second year of Hogwarts, Noah was introduced the the awe-inspiring publication, The Quibbler. Inside its pages, a separate reality was formed, an alternative evaluation of the world and the serious topics of a war weary wizarding society. He has aimed to become writer for said newspaper ever since.


Plot Thus Far: Noah Ogilvy has considered this term a rather plain one, possibly because he is not as involved as other students in the insanity of Hogwarts events. He enjoys his positions as Prefect and Keeper for the Quidditch Team and sincerely hopes that Troy Frogley (frogleygoof), one of his best mates and roommate, does not destroy the school as Head Boy. His other friends, practically polar opposites of him, are Charlie Kerrigan (le_charlie), Thatcher Hale (cthatcherhale), Caine Owen (caine_owen), and other seventh years. He is currently working on the issue of being better with girls, though he assumed his bet with Thatcher would end in his kissing McGonagall. Oy.


Personality: Although Noah displays an odd trait from the other houses here and there, all combine to work with his overall Ravenclaw personality. Noah doesn't need other people to call him names, he's a self-proclaimed nerd. The moment a topic interests him, he dives in, eager to learn anything and everything he can about the subject. Although these are often fleeting obsessions, he allows himself to attain all knowledge possible before turning right around and changing the facts until they suit his sense of humour. It can sometimes be difficult to decide whether Noah is being serious, as he delivers all information as if it were true. Most housemates have learned never to go to him for help with assignments - a few failed potions essays and they were able to catch on. Noah, however, is a rather popular student for advice of all sorts. He perceives situations from multiple angles, assessing events until a suitable course of action forms inside his mind. His love of stories and things out of the ordinary makes him an ideal history student, as he never feels the need to change events to satisfy his needs, for that he has Divination. His general overall intelligence helps him in subjects such as arithmancy and transfiguration, his analytical skills easily kicking into gear. Potions, Herbology, and Care of Magical Creatures have always provided a problem, as his attention span is far too short to give the amount of focus required.

Ravenclaw Sagittarians are the philosophers of the magical world. They love pure theory, pure mathematics, and anything that appeals to their yearning for far horizons, whether those horizons be physical (in which case they will do a lot of traveling) or mental. They excel at astrology and research, and have the rare gift of both being able to investigate a subject deeply and then being able to explain it to other people in plain language. This makes for excellent teaching potential. They are cheerful, athletic, brisk, and humourous, and also decidedly eccentric. Sometimes they get on people's nerves, because they don't have as many interpersonal skills as they seem to think they have, but it's hard to stay mad at a Ravenclaw Sagittarian for very long. They're just too goofy.

Noah would not consider himself to be a philosopher, though he often asks the right questions for such a title, nor would he claim to be a mathematician, though Arithmancy is a calkwalk for him. But he does agree that his ability to research is practically unrivaled, at least by his family members... his housemates could come close, as he never lets a detail slip by him (or so he likes to think). Noah has no desire to be a professor, his focus is too scattered to help others more than in short spurts. Tutoring is lovely when he's not making things up, teaching is out of the question! Noah is more often in a good mood than a sour one, enjoys a Quidditch match as much as any, is constantly looking for a joke to tell, and marches to the beat of his own drummer. He might still be considered odd by parts of the student population, but he takes it all in stride. As much as he wishes that he could have the social skills of the Hufflepuffs, it's the one house that doesn't seem to be as influential in his life. Bugger, he's doomed to be the next creepy welshman!

Noah enjoys chaos in everything BUT his surroundings. Jumping from one side of the brain to the other, Noah's logical and research oriented half makes it impossible for him to relax in a cluttered dorm. Everything from his trunk to his clothes are at least neat, if not organized in some pattern. He can annoy others with his need to clean up messes, but Filch seems rather fond of the boy's tidiness. Noah, sadly, does not have the same affection for the man.
